Developed by dermatologic surgeons, the
tumescent liposuction technique has made liposuction more
gentle than ever. It only requires local anaethetic, not general.
And, to anyone who has had little success in removing specific
areas of fat through diet and exercise, it's very effective.
Liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss, nor will
cellulite, and waffled skin be cured by this technique. The
best candidates for tumescent liposuction are people who are
close to their ideal weight but who have stubborn fatty deposits
in localized areas of their bodies.
In this technique, highly diluted anaethetic solutions are
used to swell the tissue to be treated. A small tube, called
cannula, is connected to a suction machine and gently inserted
into the fatty deposits through a small incision. Using back
and forth movements, the fat is loosened and suctioned through
the tube. Since the fat is removed by suctioning small "tunnels"through
it, the skin remains connected to the underlying muscles by
multiple fibres. As healing occurs, these natural fibrous
strands should contract and pull skin toward the underlying
muscles, keeping the treated areas taut.
The results of this treatment are like those you would achieve
if you could focus the effects of dieting and exercise to
specific areas of the body.
This method of fat removal is surprisingly easy and permanent.
It usually causes minimal bleeding, swelling and bruising.
Furthermore, post-operative discomfort is minimized since
the local anaethetic remains in the treated areas for approximately
18 hours. These areas will be swollen for about 2 days. However,
you should be able to return work within 48 hours and physical
exercise can usually be resumed a few days after. |
